This summer I had the opportunity to intern with Delta Dental of Iowa as their Marketing Graphic Design Intern. During my internship I was able to grow my experience in graphic design to a skill level that is useful in a communication environment. I utilized my design skills to create brochures, flyers, pamphlets, and social graphics for B2B and B2C sales and communication.

 

Working with another intern, our main project was to plan and execute Delta Dental's Day of the State Fair Sponsorship. This entailed managing a three month long project plan, ordering giveaways, maintaining brand standards, designing signage for the tent, and organizing day of volunteers and activities. 

 

The biggest takeaway that I attained from this internship was how important a companies mission is. Delta Dental is a not for profit organization, and I was able to serve the community of Des Moines with Delta Dental. Instead of merely being focused on their sales and consumers, Delta Dental of Iowa cares for the entire community of Iowa. They execute this by actions such as placing water bottle filling stations at schools, hosting free vision clinics for underserved communities, making hygiene kits for those relocated to Iowa without notice, and donating thousands of toothbrushes to deserving organizations with the same mission as Delta Dental of Iowa. This aligns perfectly with my personal values, and when searching for full time jobs I will want a company as ethically pure as Delta Dental.
